Paying Writers

The Dramatists Guild Institute believes writers should be paid for their work. Not only do we wish to promote the value of work by protecting copyright and preventing unpaid dissemination, but we’re also committed to assisting our instructors in making a living wage.

It is therefore important to us to ensure we pay a competitive wage to our faculty instructors, most of whom are working dramatists and industry professionals. Your tuition fees go directly towards supporting your instructor, and that is the most substantial part of the DGI budget. Our knowledgeable and experienced faculty is comprised of working playwrights, songwriters, and other active industry professionals who enjoy teaching and sharing tools about their craft just as much as they enjoy writing.

Furthermore, if/when unpublished work is discussed in class sessions, students may be provided with PDFs, by permission of the author (who will receive an honorarium).

After all, someone wrote that song.
