Plays in Progress

Receive personalized feedback on your play or musical from the professional mentor of your choice.

Find a Mentor For Your Play or Musical

Our Plays in Progress program offers you the opportunity to receive feedback on a draft of your play or musical from the professional mentor of your choice. Our mentors are ready to meet you where you are in your process; they can work with you on strengthening your character development, sharpening your dialogue, clarifying your dramatic intent, and more.

Once you have applied and been accepted to participate in PIP, your script will be forwarded to your mentor, who will reach out to you within five days' time to discuss your goals for this PIP experience. Your mentor will then read your play or musical within a two-week time frame and send you an electronic critique of the work. You will have the opportunity to discuss their critique with them in a Zoom or phone conversation, and to send them a follow up email with additional questions up to five days later. If you would like your mentor to read a revised draft at a later date, you are welcome to participate in our Second Look program.

Need a Second Look?

Second Look consultations enable you to submit your revised play or musical to your same mentor at a 50% discount. Please note that a Second Look is only redeemable once per script.

Fees

$250 for up to three 10-minute plays, or a short play that is less than 30 pages

$275 for a one-act play (up to 60 pages total)

$300 for a full-length play (up to 120 pages total)

$325 for a full-length play (121 pages +)

$350 for all musicals of any length

For all Second Look projects, the fee is 50% of the original consultation fee

PLEASE NOTE: Our PIP mentors are working professionals. As a result, there may be occasions where your first and second choice mentors are unavailable. If that should happen, our DGI administrators will do their best to help you identify potential new mentors. There may also be instances where mentors are available but with certain scheduling constraints. In that case, your desired mentor might still be able to work with you, but with an adjustment to the standard PIP timeline (above).

We ask that you please remain flexible and considerate; please know that everyone involved in your PIP would like to provide you with their undivided attention and to ensure that your PIP is a rewarding learning experience.

Thank you.
