What you need to know before taking a class.

  • Foundation Classes: Maximum 20 students.
Core Writing Workshops: Maximum 10 students.
    Specialty Writing Workshops: 10-15 students.
    Elective Workshops: Maximum 20 students.

The number of dramatists in each course is limited, in order to ensure that each participant has a meaningful classroom experience.

  • Please note that each student will be asked to complete a course evaluation at the conclusion of the semester. These evaluations are completely confidential. Student feedback is invaluable; each semester, we look forward to incorporating thoughts and suggestions from the course evaluations into our upcoming programming.

  • The faculty at the Dramatists Guild Institute is comprised of some of the country’s leading playwrights, songwriters, educators, and industry professionals. Please be aware that instructors are subject to change prior to the start of the semester. In the unlikely event that such a change does occur, all DGI students will be notified as soon as possible.

The DGI endeavors to create a safe space in which all students feel encouraged to participate as freely and confidently as possible. Although the Institute generally tries to group students by skill level, writers from a variety of backgrounds will inevitably be in class together. Students are expected to be inclusive, communicative, and welcoming to one another, regardless of previous writing experience.

All students should arrive on time to class, disengage from electronic media (other than the Zoom platform upon which the class is taking place), and remain present for the entire class period. Please note that the DGI is unable to record any courses. If you are unable to attend a class, it is your responsibility to contact your instructor, in advance of your planned absence, in order to coordinate a sufficient make-up strategy.

  • The DGI does not provide refunds; however, it is possible to receive credit towards a future DGI course instead. Please email dginstitute@dramatistsguild.com for more information. Unfortunately, the DGI is unable to offer financial aid at this time.

  • All registered students are advised to review the DGI Code of Conduct prior to the start of the semester.

Here at the Dramatists Guild Institute, we ask that you attend each session, and participate in the discussions, since we’ll all learn from each other.

The class will be filled with dramatists across all levels of experience, so we should all endeavor to be as inclusive and generous as possible. We’d like you to arrive for the course on time and prepared to get to work; we also ask that you stay for the entire session.
