Andrew Blackresides in Columbia, Missouri, where he attends the University of Missouri-Columbia(“Mizzou”). He is working on a PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies; his area of research is the pedagogy of playwriting. He was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, and moved to San Francisco in 1979 to explore his desire to date men and not women. His first play Porn Yesterday was written in 2001. It told the story of a gay male pornstar who wants to change his life. (Porn was co-written with DG member Patricia Milton.)

After other successes as a playwright, Andrew completed his MFA in playwriting at Ohio University (Athens, Ohio)in 2012 and returned to Indianapolis. He began teaching and developing new playwrights at the IndianaWriters Center. His success as a teacher in Indianapolis was partly what led to his decision tostudy the pedagogy of dramatic writing.

He currently teaches Beginning Playwriting, Script Analysis, and Beginning Screen writing at Mizzou.

He is currently working on several projects. One is What Same Sex Marriage Means to Me, a one-person show based on his experiences living as a gay man in the United States over the last 65 years. Another is How to Build an Ark, which incorporates many of the Bible stories that he has realized recently have provided the foundation for the code of ethics that has served him well in his lifetime.
